BRIEF
To create a refined, atmospheric retreat — a formal living room that feels both timeless and deeply personal. Our client wanted a space that offered quiet luxury and character: a place to unwind, read, or entertain in comfort, with a nod to traditional British interiors but expressed in a modern way.
Formal living room
DESIGN
This room was conceived as a modern interpretation of a gentleman’s club, reimagined with a softer, contemporary edge. The palette, anchored in deep, moody blue, establishes an enveloping backdrop that enhances the warmth of antique furniture and rich leather textures.
Architectural wall panelling and brass picture lights introduce structure and heritage, while velvet upholstery and layered textiles add tactile richness. Every detail — from the placement of artwork to the curation of books and accessories — was chosen to create a story of craftsmanship, culture, and comfort.
The result is a cocooning, sophisticated space that balances old and new — elegant enough for entertaining, yet relaxed enough for quiet reflection.
GARDINER SMITH
“For us, this project was about atmosphere — creating a space that feels both lived-in and intentional. The deep blue tones anchor the room, giving it a sense of depth and calm, while the mix of antiques and tailored modern pieces ensures it feels layered rather than styled. It’s a room that invites you to slow down — to sit, read, and just be.”
