SUSSEX COASTAL
DESIGN
This Sussex coastal home was shaped around the idea of understated warmth. We used a palette of soft blues, blush pinks, and natural neutrals to reflect the surrounding landscape while maintaining a timeless, elevated feel.
Layered linens, weathered woods, and textured finishes bring depth and tactility to each space. Antique furniture and collected artwork introduce history and soul, grounding the airy lightness of the scheme. Every piece — from a vintage dresser to a modern light fitting — was chosen for its ability to tell part of the home’s story.
The overall effect is a beautifully balanced interior — refined yet relaxed, sophisticated yet personal — perfectly attuned to its coastal setting.
BRIEF
To design a calm, layered home that captures the relaxed spirit of the Sussex coast. The brief was to create a space that felt welcoming and elegant, with an easy sense of comfort — somewhere to unwind, entertain, and enjoy the slower rhythm of coastal life.
GARDINER SMITH
“We wanted this home to feel effortlessly elegant — the kind of space that evolves naturally over time. The palette draws from the coastal surroundings, but it’s the layering that gives it life: the play of texture, colour, and contrast. It’s a home that celebrates comfort and character, proof that relaxed design can still feel beautifully considered”
